This is by far one of the most honest and raw testimonies as to why Prop 8 needs to be repealed. Well said.

It's snowing, we are supposed to get about 5 inches or so today, and tonight it will drop to 5-10 below zero.  I'm going to make Chicken Tikka Masala for dinner with curried vegetables and rice, and I think  just might be able to talk Steve into making Date Bars while I make Russian Tea Cookies.

Or I'll just make the tea cookies and not share. HAHAHAHA!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I'm selling one of my flutes.  I have it listed on Craigslist but if any of you know a flutist who is looking for a flute from a reputable seller, here's the info:

Date: 2008-11-13, 5:05PM EST

French model (open hole); solid silver Model “J1” standard wall headjoint; solid silver body and low B footjoint; white-gold springs; gold-plated lip-plate and inner headjoint; silver-plated keys and components with French style pad cups.

The KG Special has many semi-professional features--such as white gold springs for lighter action, and a gold plated inner headjoint for darker tone, and french-style pad cups--found on more advanced flutes.

This flute is in excellent condition, with one small scratch on the headjoint that can be easily buffed out. A great flute for the advancing student.

Asking $1200.00 USD OBO.

Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage*, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.**

*I'm not in a marriage, but if these freaks have their way my unmarried heterosexual relationship could be threatened as well.

**Thanks [info]pleepleus, for posting this first!

I have worn myself out remembering 9/11/2001, and I am weary of the heartache that comes with memories of that terrible day.  This poem was given to me a few years ago, and I wish the beauty and hope in its' words comforts anyone who may be hurting or feeling low today with their own memories of that awful, awful day.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

We didn't do a Man Overboard drill last night because a) we had NO wind so b) the race was canceled and c) everyone jumped in anyhow because it was so damn hot.  It was a nice night to cruise out on the water though.  I went up alone;Steve has a huge account that is being sold and they are moving  over 2 million dollars over the wire today so he's all freaked out about it, and yesterday he went down to Connecticut to meet with the new vendor. Danielle and I hung out, and we made more plans for Steve's Par-tay tomorrow night.  She's going to pick up a bunch of crazy curly-haired wigs to wear as a tribute. Steve has this awesome Jewfro thing going on, it's truly amazing to witness and we tease him about it all the time.  We are also going to wear t-shirts that say "Party on your birthday or WE WILL RAM YOU!", which is from a crew joke started by Steve when we were trying to help a boat that lost its' motor by giving it a tow into the harbor.  They wouldn't drop their sails, so Steve got all excited and yelled "Drop your sails or WE WILL RAM YOU!"  I know this isn't funny in writing, but coming out of the mouth of possibly the most peaceful, docile human being in the world it's quite shocking and amusing.  So we made a joke out of it...."Hoist up the fenders, or WE WILL RAM YOU!"  "Pass the chicken, or WE WILL RAM YOU!".  It's been going on ALL summer long, and it would be appropriate to put it to an end at Steve's Birthday.  Anyhow, good times for tomorrow night for sure.  I just have to drive up to Auburn tomorrow morning and drop off the cake and adult beverages to Dianne and everything will be set. Whee!

I need to get my glasses refitted when I get back to Syracuse.  They keep slipping down my nose.
